HULL SEA SHANTY FESTIVAL - 22nd - 24th July 2011

The Festival is to take place at 4 venues on or near the Hull Waterfront: Fruitspace, Minerva, Ruscador’s and the Town Docks Museum.

See the poster above for list of booked artistes.

Our new event is the result of an initiative by the licensees of the “Minerva” and “Ruscadors” pubs on the Hull Waterfront. Although on a smaller scale than the original “Sea Fever” festival a quality event is planned that will help to keep “Shantying” and maritime traditions alive in the City of Hull.

A small team has been created which includes Mick McGarry, Shanty Jack, the two pub landlords and the manager of the “Fruitspace” venue. We are in consultation with the Hull City Council and “Hullbid” regarding various aspects of the event.

Friday evening is a “Meet and Greet” session at the "Minerva."

Saturday a daytime open session will be held at the “Minerva” with a variety of hosts and festival guests dropping in to do 10 minute spots while at “Ruscadors” there is a programme of half-hour artist’s spots on an open air stage adjacent to the Pub. The Town Docks Museum has set aside a room for singing and playing, from 11am – 4 pm with festival guests and members of Yorkshire Garland taking part.

Saturday evening a full concert will take place at the “Fruitspace” venue 7.30 – 11pm And at the same time Les Ward & Maggie Graham host a sing-a-round in the "Minerva."

Sunday sees another open session with the opportunity for people to have a go singing and/or playing themselves at the “Minerva” and at “Ruscadors” a programme of artist’s spots take place on an open air stage adjacent to the Pub throughout the day.

Sunday evening there will be a “Survivors’ Session” at “Ruscadors” all welcome.

On Saturday and Sunday (daytimes) there will also be various stalls and dance displays. Meals will be available at both pubs.

Tickets (£5) for the Saturday evening concert can now be ordered in advance and paid online (50p booking fee) via the “Fruitspace” website: www.fruitspace.co.uk or purchased direct from the “Minerva” or “Ruscadors” over the bar.

All other performances are free admission.
