NEW YORK (USA). The New York Packet sing at the Melville Gallery of South Street Seaport Museum, 209 Water Street (between Fulton & Beekman Streets) from 3.00pm. Admission $5 Adults/ $2 Children. Guest: 'DICK SWAIN'. Dick possesses a deep knowledge of maritime songs from the Great Lakes, northern New England and Atlantic Canada. His voice is rich and he accompanies himself on many instruments including concertina, guitar and banjo.

NEW YORK (USA). The CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK (CUNY) Institute for Irish-American Studies will be hosting a lecture / performance by DAN MILNER & BOB CONROY at 7:00 PM. The lecture topic is "Irish Maritime Songs from Old New York." The venue is Lehman College, Faculty Dining Room in the Music Building. Lehman College is at 250 Bedford Park Boulevard in The Bronx, and is accessible by the 4 and D subway lines to Bedford Park Boulevard or by car via the Major Deegan Expressway or Mosholu Parkway.

LANCASTER MARITIME FESTIVAL (UK). The Festival will be held, as usual, over the Easter period, Lancaster's Eighteenth Maritime Festival - the World's premier sea song and shanty festival. It is focussed upon the City's Maritime Museum (former Custom House), quayside pubs and the outdoor area to the rear of the Museum. Central to this celebration of Lancaster's Golden Age of maritime trade will be a full programme performed by the world's largest gathering of sea-song and shanty singers. The aim of the evening is to raise money for the Diving Diseases Research Centre. As well as providing emergency treatment to divers suffering from decompression illnesses, it has established a worldwide reputation for its treatment of conditions like Cyril’s, as well as others such as carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene and radiation tissue damage.

'The Eye of the Wind' The Story of Captain James Cook's first voyage of discovery is brought vividly back to life with Richard Grainger, The Endeavour Shantymen and the Scarborough Poets.Tickets are £9 and the proceeds will go towards The Captain Cook Festival to be held at Whitby from 26th-29th May. Guest: JOHN ROBERTS. One-half of the well known Roberts & Barrand singing duo, John is from Kidderminster, England on the River Stour. Accompanying himself on banjo, guitar and squeezeboxes, he is a great solo performer making a rare NYC appearance. This is a "do not miss" concert. Special guest set by the CHANTEENS, great shanty-singing kids from Connecticut.

SANDWICH (U.S.A). "Saving our Ships: The Sea Paintings of Charles Robert Patterson." Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Although this is not a shanty festival, it is an exhibition being organised by Bob Webb, one of America's foremost shantymen. The artist was an English born square rig sailor, who became, arguably, the most important marine artist in America during the 20th century. WHITBY (U.K.) "Captain Cook Spring Shanty Festival." Artistes so far invited include A-Drift, Coblers Monday, Bernard Davis, Steve Dawes & Helen Pitt, Dogwatch, Dyframix, The Endeavour Shantymen, The Filey Men, Richard Grainger, Hughie Jones, The Keelers, Marske Fishermens'Choir, Ian McNicol, Dick Miles, Monkeys Fist, The Scarborough Poets, Short Drag Roger, Teesside Fettlers and Mick Tems.
Other activities on offer include our Shanty Train running beween Middlesbrough and Whitby on Sunday 28th and our 'Captain Kids Fun Club' .
A new CD is being released on the Friday to celebrate Whitby's Tenth Anniversary Captain Cook Festival . Titled 'Ten Years Before the Mast,' it features songs from many of the artistes who will perform at the weekend's event. The CD will be hot off the press and ready for sale on Friday 26th - the evening of the first concert. Profits from its sale will be donated to the festival.

FALMOUTH (U.K.). Annual Falmouth Shanty Festival.
Artistes performing will include: Falmouth Shout, Hanging Johnny, Rum & Shrub, Fishermen's Friends, Sheringham Shantymen, The Cape Cornwall Singers, Cadgwith Singers, The Wareham Whalers, Charlotte & Spong and The Royal Marine Shanty Singers.
The venue is all around The Custom House Quay, Falmouth and proceeds are for RNLI. The format will be pretty much as last year but we may attempt a Record Breaking Shanty Song involving all the groups (on early Saturday Evening!).
